My name is Nigel and I teach people to drive because I love it. As testimony to this you only need to look at my past, driving history which has been my occupation for life. can all driving schools say this?
My driving history background:
I passed my car test in 1982 where I was taught by my granddad who was a driving instructor and a lorry driver. For the most part I have followed in his footsteps, the exception to this is I also have full qualifications as a mechanic.
What this means for my students is that I have extended knowledge of how a vehicle works and I talk about things that will help you to keep you and your car safe on the road giving tips to help make your car run more economical, to get value for your money and for the environment!
My on road experience as a lorry driver in multiple countries, different road conditions, diverse road rules and the fact that I drove up to 9 hours a day, means my experience proves that what I teach is what I do too and that you can drive safely and stay alive too!
Qualifications
Since becoming a driving instructor I have gained qualifications in adult teaching with city and guilds preparing to teach in lifelong learning level 3 and University of Huddersfield's level 4 in life long learning. I also have a full motorcycle licence and have passed the DIAmond advanced drivers test.
I have gained these skills from a career in driving and pass them onto you my students.
As a professional driver I feel that I have skills and knowledge to pass on to new drivers,
I remember the nervous feelings and the apprehension of driving on the road for the first time, the thumping heart pounding my chest and sweaty palms strangling the steering wheel, this is a memory I share with many new drivers as they go through the same emotions.
I am a very patient person and understand these feelings, because of I work one on one with my students it means we can work through this together and over come this to turn you into a life long safe driver.
Driving standards
My personal opinion is that I feel at the moment that the current driving instructing is not at the high standard it should be. The large and small driving schools need to “up” the game by employing instructors that have a high skill level and more experience, only then can the public be sure every new driver on the road is skilled enough to face the challenges on the modern roads and the changes that will take place in the future.
